Imelda Causing Devastating Flooding in Southeast Texas
The winds have died down from Imelda, but the rains have not stopped. Imelda made its way to land yesterday afternoon as a tropical storm, but quickly downgraded to a tropical depression as it hit southeast Texas.
According to Accuweather, the storm dropped five to ten inches of rain Wednesday night in Beaumont, and over 17 inches in Hamshire, Texas. This morning and afternoon, sections of I-10 were shut down from Vinton exit four to the Texas state line. Then more of the interstate in Texas at exit 870 and west.
According to KPLC, over 20 inches of rain has fallen along the areas of Winnie to Beaumont in the last 24 hours. Travelers are advised to not venture into southeast Texas due to flooded conditions, and also be aware that as the rain bands sweep across southwest Louisiana, flash flooding is still a very real risk.
