In what is still an active investigation, shots were fired in the parking lot at the Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles. Lake Charles Police (LCPD) responded to calls of shots being fired around 3 pm Saturday, November 2, 2024. KPLC TV was on the scene shortly after the incident occurred and spoke to a customer who had just entered Versona, a store in the mall.

The woman, a Florida native, said she had stopped to take pictures in the store when she heard gunfire. The woman told KPLC's Jillian Corder, that she heard the shots coming from from outside of the mall in the parking lot and ran into one of the dressing rooms for safety.

In an air of caution the mall, Cinemark Theaters, and nearby stores were locked mode initially to keep customers and mall employees safe. The According to the authorities there were no reports of any injuries in or outside the mall parking. In addition, they confirmed that it was not an "active shooter" situation.
