Louisiana law enforcement officials say that a man who has been missing since last week was found dead.

An alert from the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office went out Thursday, January 11 after the man's family could not locate 36-year-old Justin Bates at his home in Flatwoods.

Officials with the Sheriff's Office have released that from everything they have been about to find out the man succumbed to the weather conditions in a wooded area that was not far from his home.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's officials sent this statement from the family,

The Sheriff’s Office, at the family’s request, would like to take this opportunity to remind the public if you are participating in outdoor activities, you should monitor current weather conditions and forecasts and make sure all equipment is charged and/or fueled and in proper functioning condition.

The man was found about 3/4 of a mile from his home.

Several agencies combined with the Rapides Sheriff's Office to lead the effort to find the missing man including the following:

  • The many people who volunteered in search efforts
  • The Alexandria Fire Department
  • The Alexandria Fire Department Rescue Team
