St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year on March 17. It honors Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Saint Patrick lived more than 1,500 years ago and is known for helping spread Christianity across Ireland.

According to stories, he used a three-leaf clover called a shamrock to explain the idea of the Holy Trinity. Over time, the shamrock became a symbol of the holiday.
