Lake Charles Announces Trash Pickup Changes for July 4 Weekend
Lake Charles, LA [KNGT-FM] - As Independence Day approaches, many families are making plans for cookouts, fireworks, and long holiday weekends. While most people know that government offices and banks will be closed in observance of the holiday, some local service changes can easily slip under the radar.
This year, the Fourth of July falls on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Because the holiday falls on a weekend, many federal, state, and local offices will observe it on Friday, July 3. That means several services throughout the area will operate on modified schedules, including residential garbage collection in Lake Charles.

According to Lake Charles city officials, sanitation pickup dates will be adjusted to accommodate the holiday schedule.

Residents whose garbage and trash are normally collected on Thursday should place their containers out one day earlier, as service will take place on Wednesday, July 1.

For households with regular Friday collection, pickup will occur on Thursday, July 2 instead. In addition to the schedule changes, all city recycling stations will be closed on Friday, July 3. This includes the Team Green recycling truck and the city's incinerator facility. Normal operations for those services are expected to resume on Monday, July 6.
City leaders encourage residents to plan to avoid missing their adjusted pickup dates during the busy holiday week.
Whether you're spending the weekend with family, enjoying local celebrations, or traveling for the holiday, taking note of these schedule changes now can help prevent unnecessary inconvenience later. Have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day weekend.
