McNeese Looking To Start New Streak, Hosts UIW on Monday Night
McNeese State will look to get back in the win column after stumbling on Saturday in Thibodeaux. Monday Night, the Cowboys will take on another stellar Southland Conference offense as Incarnate Word comes to town.
It was a tough night from the jump for McNeese on Saturday as they fell to Nicholls 71-63 to suffer its first Southland Conference Play in nearly a year. The loss to Nicholls also snapped a 12-game winning streak for McNeese.
The Colonels dominated from three-point range, hitting 11 of their 22 shots. Meanwhile, McNeese missed all 11 of their three-point attempts. That 33-point difference was too much for the Cowboys to come back from.
"I was worried about this all week," said McNeese head coach Will Wade. "We got beat up pretty bad on the road. Nicholls played way more physical than us, and we just couldn’t finish."
Even with the struggles, McNeese had a chance late in the game. Brandon Murray’s second straight three-point play cut Nicholls’ lead to just four points, making it 67-63 with 1:53 left.
"We didn’t deserve to win," Wade admitted. "They were the better team today. If we had won, it would have been like stealing."
So now for Will Wade and his Bayou Bandits, they will look to begin a new streak as they continue conference play and will return home to host Incarnate Word on Monday Night inside of the Legacy Center.
This will be the only regular season matchup between UIW and McNeese.
Incarnate Word is coming off of a massive win over Houston Christian over the weekend after Jailin Anderson scored a career-high 29 points in the win. The Cardinals have one of the best offenses in the Southland Conference and can shoot it pretty well. UIW ranks in the Top 3 in the conference in three-pointers made.
The Cardinals are led by Davion Bailey who is 2nd in the conference in scoring.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and is slated to tip off at 6:00. There will also be free king cake samples given out at the game before tipoff.
