New Year’s Eve in America is all about celebrating the end of one year and the start of another with friends, family, and lots of excitement. One of the most famous traditions is the ball drop in Times Square, New York City. Thousands of people gather in the cold to watch a giant sparkling ball slowly drop as the countdown begins. Millions more watch it live on TV from their homes. When the clock strikes midnight, fireworks explode, people cheer, and couples share a kiss for good luck in the new year.

Another fun tradition is making New Year’s resolutions. At the start of every year, people set goals to improve themselves, like eating healthier, exercising more, or saving money. Even though many resolutions don’t last past January, it’s still a positive way to start fresh. Some people also believe in small traditions for good luck, like eating black-eyed peas and collard greens in the South, which are said to bring prosperity and wealth.
