Now Open: Take a Peek Inside Sam Houston Jones State Park
Another step in the right direction for the SWLA area recovering from a horrible hurricane season. Sam Houston Jones State Park has finally opened its gates to the public after 2 years of recovery. The park opened Monday for "day" visitation. Meaning it is just open for visitors to use the park for the day. Anxious visitors were lined up waiting to see what the facility looked like after 2 years worth of hard work. That work included removing a ton of trees, and debris, rebuilding structures, various systems, camping areas, coverings, and the cabins that visitors can rent and stay in for a little getaway.
After all of that work, the park now boasts 31 campsites, new RV campsites with sewer and 50amp electrical, 10 luxury cabins, trailhead restrooms, four new tent sites, and a 500-foot boardwalk along the river.
Currently, the park is just open for day visits, but reservations will begin for overnight areas on June 20. Those overnight areas will officially open on July 1 of this year, and the official grand opening of the park will be on July 20!
