President Barack Obama arrived in Baton Rouge on Tuesday (8/23) to visit areas of south Louisiana that were devastated by flooding.

There has been much conversation and debate on President Obama's visit to south Louisiana with some saying he was neglecting our area to finish golfing on vacation while others disagreed, citing Governor John Bel Edwards request for the President to "wait a week" or two before visiting.

Edwards reason behind asking Obama to delay his visit was directly related to the resources needed to accommodate a Presidential visit—resources that were desperately needed in order to continue rescue efforts and the aftermath of the flooding.

Obama, joined by Gov. John Bel Edwards along with Louisiana Senators and Congressmen, visited what is being called "ground zero" of the flooding disaster

The president viewed the damage in the Castle Place subdivision in Zachary, an area that saw 2' to 3' of water. He talked with people who lost everything in the floods to hear how they are trying to recover following the natural disaster. He toured the area for about an hour before making a formal address.

Obama spoke of the Louisiana people, acknowledging their resilience and his certainty that they would bounce back.

I know how resilient the people of Louisiana are and I know that you will rebuild again

Obama wrapped his visit by meeting flood victims at a recovery center.
