Paris Police Kill Mastermind of Terrorist Attacks
This morning's raids in a residential part of Paris, France, resulted in the death of the ringleader of the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks, according to the Washington Post.
The raid went down in a suburb of Paris called Saint-Denis in the form of a seven-hour seige. By the end, two were dead, including Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, the prime suspect for the architect of Friday's attacks.
Paris prosecutor François Molins, speaking to reporters hours after the siege, said a discarded cellphone helped identify a series of safe houses used by attackers to plan Friday’s coordinated assaults, which killed 129 people and wounded more than 350 across Paris.
...The phone’s data contained a map of the (Bataclan Concert Hall), French media reported, along with a chilling text message sent shortly after the first gunmen entered: “Let’s go, we’re starting.”-- Washington Post
Abaaoud's death has been confirmed by two "senior European officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity." The UK's Telegraph also confirms that information.
This morning's raid began with a suicide bombing -- Hasna Aitboulachen, 26, set off a rigged vest or belt after opening fire. At least seven people were arrested before the raid ended. You can read the whole story at the Washington Post.
