Ronnie Milsap was rushed to the hospital on Friday night (July 15), shortly before a scheduled show in Georgia, forcing the postponement of his set.

The country icon suffered an unspecified health problem backstage prior to his scheduled concert in Tifton, Ga., and was transported by ambulance from the venue to the Tift Regional Medical Center. However, WALB-TV reports that Milsap was "elated" and "in great spirits" as he met with fans backstage before his health issue struck.

Milsap is scheduled to perform at Saddle Up for St. Jude in Alabama on Saturday night (July 16). A Facebook post from the event reports that the artist was treated for dehydration but has been discharged and is on his way to the event. The promoters of Milsap's Friday night concert report that he will perform a makeup show on Sunday night (July 17) if he's healthy enough; fans looking for ticket refunds can visit TicketAlternative.com.

Milsap, 73, is a Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame member. Almost completely blind since birth, the singer-songwriter has sold more than 35 million albums and earned over 40 No. 1 hits, as well as six Grammy Awards, five ACM Awards and eight CMA Awards since beginning his career in the early 1960s. He told WALB that he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“I don’t want to retire to anything,” Milsap says. “I want to keep playing my music all over the country, all over the world.”
