On Friday, September 24, Miss Claire Conrad was crowned the 2016 Homecoming queen during ceremonies at the Sulphur High School football game. She and her fellow students have set a fantastic example for everyone, and it's not going unnoticed.

This beautiful young lady has Down Syndrome, but she also has an amazing smile and an obvious love of life.

The post celebrating her coronation has been shared countless times across Facebook. She has been offered gifts and words of congratulations from people who are thrilled by the joie de vivre emanating from her pictures.

Parents of other children with Down Syndrome share how they are inspired to see that students today are able to look through to the heart of who someone who has it and appreciate them for who they truly are.

She accepted her crown Friday night, and, according to the Facebook post was escorted to the dance on Saturday by Sulphur High football player Kristian Skinner.

Thank you, Miss Claire, for being a shining example of the smiling face we should all share with each other. I certainly hope that the Homecoming season for all schools will be safe, happy, and inclusive.

Keep the students at Westlake High, Washington-Marion High, and Iowa High in your thoughts this week as they celebrate their own Homecoming festivities. Barbe, Dequincy High, and Sam Houston will celebrate next week.
