Tammy Wynette Would Have Celebrated Her 73rd Birthday Today

Country music legend Tammy Wynette's birthday is today. She would have turned 73 today but she unfortunately passed away to young at the age of 55 in 1998. Tammy Wynette actually was born Virginia Wynette Pugh on May 5th 1942 in Luka, Mississippi.

Tammy Wynette was an American icon and a country music icon with some huge hits in her 32 year career spanning from 1966 thru 1998. Tammy had huge hits with "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" and "Stand by Your Man".

Tammy is also known for her marriage to George Jones. They were married from 1969 to 1975 and they also were singing partners best known for the song "Golden Ring" and "Together Again"

On April 6th, 1998 Tammy Wynette died of a blood clot in her lung on her couch in her house.
