Taylor Swift’s Mom’s Cancer Battle

Yesterday, Taylor Swift announced on her blog that she was saddened by having to announce that her mother, Andrea Swift, received a cancer diagnosis. Back in December, Swift asked her mom to get a health screening even though she was feeling fine, just to ease her own worries.

The normally very public Swift is keeping the type of cancer and treatment plan private, but said her mom wanted to let the fans know. Since the beginning, her mom has played an integral part of her career, including appearing in some of her videos. She always attends her concerts and knew that there would be questions as to why she would now be missing events.

Swift is now encouraging her fans to encourage their parents to also get screened due to their busy schedules. Early detection is the best defense and makes for a much easier battle. Within an hour and a half of putting the news on Twitter, it was re-tweeted over 21,000 times, filled with prayers and words of encouragement for Swift, her mom and the family. Later she thanked her fans for their outpouring of love and support adding "I hope and pray that you never get news like this". (CNN)
