Texas Waives STAAR Testing Requirements. Is Louisiana Next?
With more and more schools closing in Texas as an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Governor Greg Abbot has waived the STAAR, State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, requirements for 2019-2020. The Governor is also reaching out to the United States Department of Education to waive the federal testing required as well.
In Louisiana, schools have the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program. The tests are given to students to assure they have mastered the skills needed to move on according to the state. The tests are over the subjects of Mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies, and Science.
With Texas waving the need for their statewide testing, will Louisiana follow along? With schools being cancelled till at least April 13, how will this affect scores?
