The Cowboys are on the road to take on Sam Houston State this week. Next week is homecoming and we have the event schedule for you.

 

According to a press release from the university McNeese State University will celebrate Homecoming 2012 Oct. 20-27 with a number of activities for students, alumni and the community. Events include the opening of John McNeese Park, the homecoming parade, pep rally and fireworks, step show, golf tournament, receptions, tailgating, unveiling of the Homecoming King and Queen – all packed into one festive week. The John McNeese Park will officially open at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, with a brief presentation at the John McNeese statue. Several members of McNeese’s namesake, John McNeese, will be on hand for this event. The Homecoming parade is also scheduled to roll down Ryan Street at 7 p.m. on Thursday, with McNeese’s mascot – Rowdy - as this year’s parade marshal. The 2012 Homecoming theme is “Axe the ‘Jacks.”          The pep rally takes place immediately after the parade inside Cowboy Stadium, where the 2012 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. A fireworks display sponsored by the McNeese Alumni Association and its corporate sponsor Christus St. Patrick Hospital will follow the pep rally. The Cowboys are playing the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin State University at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in Cowboy Stadium. The 2012 Homecoming Court will be introduced during halftime ceremonies. The McNeese Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday with the latest collegiate apparel for Cowboy fans to wear to the game that night. Other events taking place during Homecoming week are: the McNeese Rodeo Oct. 26-27 in the Burton Complex - for times and ticket prices call 475-5690; and the Fall Preview Day Oct. 27 for high school students and their parents - for information call 475-5504.       Events are sponsored by the Student Union Board (475-5644), Student Government Association (475-5605) and the McNeese Alumni Association (475-5232).
