We all want to live in a place where the flowers are growing and the only insects we see are Butterflies. I have been here in Louisiana since 2001, this is officially my second home now. Everyone thinks about Louisiana for Casino, great food, and fun times. However, It doesn't always work out like that and unfortunately, things are a little worse than we may think. I pulled from the FBI statistics that were calculated in May 2021 from Road Snacks.net and was surprised by what came across my page. Here are the 10 most dangerous places in Louisiana.

10.) Gonzales- Crime rate: 8,528 per 100,000 property theft. Gonzales is the least dangerous and is home to the outlet that many people far and near tend to visit and patronage on any given weekend.

9.) New Orleans- Crime Rate: Crime Rate: 1,144 out of 100,000 violent crimes. I have to admit that I was expecting the city to be a little higher on the list. Mainly because we tend to hear about crimes and violence on the streets of Bourbon rather often. This shouldn't take from fact that the city is beautiful and full of life and celebration. You have to love the word famous Handgrenade which is good regardless of what day it is.

8.) West Monroe- Crime Rate: 1 in 13 chance of property theft. West Monroe is known as one of the Twin Cities of northeast Louisiana. Nearly 13,000 people reside there and while it is fairly safer than some of the favorite places like Antique Alley and Kiroli park, it made the list due to property crime in the city.

7.) Natchitoches- Crime Rate: 997 violent crimes per 100,000. Over 18,000 resides here and they have some of the best foods in the area. Unfortunately, many of the residents live below the poverty line which regardless of where you live tends to be an influence on bad crime as it is for Natchitoches.

6.) Ponchatoula- Crime Rate: 6,993 per 100,000 property crime rate. The great home of the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, which is just what it says. This is when you can have all the strawberries you can possibly handle with the strawberry eating contest. You can also enjoy rides for the entire family as well as live music. This is normally in April which means that at the other times of the year, there is not much to do. This causes people to pick up recreational activities which may not coincide with the law.

5.) Monroe- Crime Rate: 1 in 56 chance of violent crime. This is the other half of the "Twin Cities" with close to 50,000 people. A little-known fact as the city was first known as Fort Miro and later changed the name to Monroe which sounds a little better in my opinion.

4.) Bastrop- Crime Rate: 1 in 12 chance of property crime. With close to 11,000 people in this city, there were once some very profitable and reputable businesses there including the IPC paper mill and Pilgrim's Pride poultry plant. Unfortunately, they were closed in 2008 which had a negative effect on the city.

2.) Alexandria- Crime Rate: 1 in 11 chance of property crime. For fun, you may want to make a visit to the Alexandria Zoological Park. But be cautious as the crime rate almost quadruples the crime rate of the national average. The city sits on the Red River, which is almost the exact center of Louisana.

1. Opelousas- Crime Rate: 1 in 40 chance of violent crime: Home of one of the landmark clubs until a few years ago Delta Grand. This place is known for great Zydeco music and Louisiana culture is at the forefront. This is also the home of Tony Chachere's and a few other well-known items that are frequently used in the kitchen. Unfortunately, they are at the top of the list as one of the most dangerous cities due to multiple crimes within the area. From my personal experience, this is a beautiful place with great people and hopefully, things will shake for a positive turnaround with the city.

I love Louisiana, there are so many great people here in this state and just like any other place there are going to be problems. We all want the crime to cease but we have to know that things like this will take time, but with the right push, we can definitely turn things around and get more of a positive rating going forward.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
