The Mark-Crest Butter Company is a family-owned business with a long history of producing quality food products. Founded in 1963 by Swiss-born pastry chef Emil Glukler, the company got its start in the basement of B.C. Ice & Cold Storage, making frozen tart shells and pizza crusts for a small group of customers.

Over the years, Mark-Crest has grown into a major food manufacturer with nearly 300 products, including tart shells, pie shells, puff pastry, meat pies, and appetizers. Their facility in Langley, British Columbia, is SQF certified, meaning it meets strict food safety and quality standards. Today, the company distributes its products across Canada and into many parts of the United States. Known for its commitment to quality and customer service, Mark-Crest has become a trusted name in kitchens across North America.

Their 8-ounce packs of "Salted Butter" are being pulled off the shelves in multiple states, including Louisiana. Health officials discovered that the butter may contain Coliform bacteria, which is often found in unsanitary conditions, including fecal contamination.

Coliform can cause serious foodborne illnesses. People who eat food containing this bacteria may experience nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. While healthy adults may recover quickly, the bacteria can be especially dangerous for young children, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

The butter being recalled has a best-by date of September 9, 2025. The affected lot number is 090925-055, and the UPC code is 0 78354 62038 0. If you have this product in your refrigerator, health officials say you should throw it away immediately or return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

Now, if you're in Louisiana, you don't have to fret, as it doesn't appear that Louisiana made the list. The affected butter was distributed to stores in Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Arkansas. In total, 189 cases are being withdrawn from the market.
