With the Christmas and New Year holiday now hear, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a joint DWI Checkpoint this Friday night somewhere in the parish.

Many people will be out celebrating the holiday and the Sheriff's office will be out looking for impaired drivers to keep the road ways safe this holiday season.

Kim Myers with the Sheriff's Office tells us:

In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Friday, December 23.

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.  This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

The checkpoint will be this Friday night December 23rd and will be located at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.  People are encouraged to buckle up and get a designated driver!
