The fourth of July holiday is upon us and folks will be hitting the road traveling but also be staying around the area just looking for things to go do.

We all know that with a longer holiday weekend, the roads will be cluttered with traffic and people will be getting out going to BBQs, watching live music in the area, and having some drinks.

With that being said, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be looking to keep our roadways safe this 4th of July holiday and will conduct a DWI checkpoint somewhere in the Parish tonight, July 1st.

According to Alexis Pousson with the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff's Office,

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

Remember to have a plan in place before you decide to have some drinks. Some tips like designating a driver, having someone on speed dial that can drive you home, or using a ride-share service like Uber or Lyft.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office said that this checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
