Chain Restaurants That Could Be Closing in Texas in 2024
Texas is known for its great food, from BBQ to Tex-Mex, but some of the big chain restaurants we’re used to might be closing their doors in 2024.
There are many reasons that we are seeing more and more larger chain restaurants close their doors here post-COVID-19 COVID-19 pandemic. Most of which relate to financial struggles post-pandemic.
Due to changes in customer preferences, financial struggles, and other challenges, several popular restaurants could be shutting down locations across the state. Here are a few chain restaurants that might be closing in Texas this year.
Applebee’s
Applebee’s has been a favorite spot for casual dining for many Texans, but the chain has been facing difficulties. Since 2017, Applebee’s has closed about 300 locations across the country, and it’s expected that another 25 to 35 could close in 2024. With increasing competition and changing tastes, some Texas locations might not survive this year.
Hardee’s
Hardee’s is known for its big burgers, but it seems that fewer people are interested in their high-calorie, expensive meals. The chain is rumored to be closing many of its locations across the country, and Texas could be one of the states affected. With so many other fast-food options available, some Hardee’s locations in Texas might be on the chopping block.
Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse is a popular place for steak lovers, but it’s not immune to financial pressures. According to reports, the chain plans to close more than 40 locations in 2024. While they also plan to open a few new ones, some Outback Steakhouse locations in Texas could be among those that are shutting down. It’s a tough time for sit-down restaurants, and Outback is no exception.
Red Lobster
Red Lobster, known for its seafood dishes and famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits, is struggling to keep all its locations open. Over 100 Red Lobster locations have already closed this year, and experts think more closures could happen in 2024. Some Texas locations might be at risk as the chain tries to stay afloat in a competitive market.
Denny’s
Denny’s has been a go-to spot for breakfast lovers, but even this classic diner is facing challenges. In 2023, 57 Denny’s locations were closed, and at least 20 more are expected to close in 2024. With fewer people eating out for breakfast or late-night meals, some Denny’s locations in Texas might not make it through the year.
