[KNGT-FM] - Over the weekend, crowds from across Louisiana and Southeast Texas gathered to honor a beloved bar and deli that's been part of the community for over 30 years. The owners of the bar and deli announced in July 2025 that they would be closing the popular establishment permanently in August 2025.

Wayne & Layne's Bar and Deli, a Sulphur staple for over 30 years, announced that August 8th and 9th, 2025, would mark its final weekend of operation before closing its doors for good. The beloved bar first opened over 30 years ago on Ruth Street, within the city limits of Sulphur, Louisiana.

Then they moved into the Carylss area, and that is where the popular place stood until it closed its doors late Saturday night. Owners Wayne & Lane Hardin, who are twins, took to social media to make the announcement. They said,

We say this with a heavy heart: For over 30 years, Wayne and Layne’s has been a household name throughout SWLA/SETX that eventually spread far and wide, reaching places two young boys from Hackberry would have never imagined. A term we often use: “small town famous”. We started this adventure, as most do, with very little money and big dreams. We can barely grasp how many friends we have made along the way, and today we refer to those friends as our family. This is very bittersweet, but Wayne and Layne’s last weekend will be Friday, August 8th, and Saturday, August 9th.

Last Friday and Saturday, a ton of folks flocked to the bar for one last hooray. Pictures of the place and the folks inside having a good time blanketed social media. One post that stood out was one from United States Congressman Clay Higgins, who posted a video inside Wayne & Laynes and talked about his connection to the famous establishment.

In the video, he reflects on his personal history with the bar, dating back to 2016, when it served as one of the first venues for his campaign meetings. Watch Clay Higgins' full tribute below.

We wanted to share this with you. We thought it was so nice for Congressman Higgins to take some time out of his busy schedule to drop by and pay tribute to one of Southwest Louisiana's favorite places. Thank you, Clay, and thanks to Wayne and Layne Hardin for 30 years of great memories.
