Decision Time for McNeese on Women’s Basketball Program
The McNeese State Cowgirls feel to New Orleans on Tuesday inside of the Legacy Center 73-71, in a matchup that nearly feels like a simulation of the entire season…
“For a game that didn’t really matter in the standings, I felt like both teams came out and played hard today. I give UNO a lot of credit. They came ready to play.” said Kennedy
This game marked the end of Lynn Kennedy's fourth season as head coach of the Cowgirls where he guided McNeese to a 41-78 overall record.
Kennedy, who took over the program in April 2021, led McNeese to its most wins (13) and highest conference finish (4th) during the 2021-22 season. However, the team has faced challenges in recent seasons, including injuries and close losses.
As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding Kennedy's contract status or future with the program. Kennedy discussed his future following the loss to New Orleans…
“We love it here. I haven’t talked to anyone about it yet. Honestly, I feel like we’ve set the foundation. We’ve done the heavy lifting. We’ve taken steps forward in Louisiana and Texas recruiting. You can feel it coming together. But that’s not my decision.”
One of the major glaring issues for the Cowgirls through the last two seasons has been the inability to remain healthy. Kennedy says he would be open to changing up how things are operated behind the scenes with the medical staff and so on…
“That’s something we’ll have to discuss with administration. The men’s side made some changes that worked well for them, and that’s something I’d look at too.”
As for Kennedy’s future, that will remain uncertain for the foreseeable future, but conversations will soon be had.
