Deridder & Plainview Celebrate State Softball Championship Wins

Congratulations to the Deridder Lady Dragons! They are the LHSAA Class 4A state softball champions, the first title in school history!

The video captured by Facebook user Jessica Dillard illustrates their excitement after the 5-1 win Saturday over Morgan City.

Several other southwest Louisiana teams competed in the tournament that began Thursday in Sulphur, and the Lady Dragons won't be the only ones bringing home the hardware.

The Plainview Lady Hornets Hornets swatted away Harrisonburg 6-1 in the Class C final game on Saturday.

Two teams made it to the second to last round. Sam Houston fell to Hahnville 5-3 in Class 5A, and LaSalle trounced South Cameron 16-1 in Class 1A. Neither LaSalle nor Hahnville won their respective brackets.
