LHSAA Moves Boys Basketball Tournament From Lake Charles to Lafayette
The LHSAA announced this week that the Boys Basketball State Championships, better known as "Marsh Madness," will move from Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles to the CAJUNDOME in Lafayette beginning in March 2027.
While the news may disappoint many basketball fans in Southwest Louisiana, the LHSAA praised Lake Charles for providing a first-class experience for teams and spectators year after year.
"We will always be grateful to Visit Lake Charles, Burton Coliseum, and the entire Lake Charles community for hosting our boys’ basketball state championships for more than a decade. They played a tremendous role in helping Marsh Madness become the event it is today. Their hospitality, professionalism, and unwavering support created a first-class experience for our student-athletes, coaches, schools, and fans year after year. Lake Charles was a fantastic host and a wonderful home for our championships, and we sincerely appreciate everything they have done for Louisiana high school basketball," said LHSAA Assistant Executive Director and Director of Basketball Karen Hoyt.
The venue change is part of a larger plan by the LHSAA. The association also announced that the State Powerlifting Championships will move to West Monroe beginning in 2027, while the State Wrestling Championships will relocate to New Orleans.
Baseball, Softball, Swimming Championship Remaining in SWLA Through '28
Visit Lake Charles has announced that even with the recent announcement of the Basketball State Tournament heading to Lafayette, the Softball, Baseball, and Swimming State Tournaments will all remain in Southwest Louisiana through 2028.
