DOTD Is Shutting Down Roads And Interstates In South Louisiana
Breaking news for all of South Louisiana. The DOTD has announced that they will be closing down roads, overpasses, and interstates this morning until further notice. With all of South Louisiana's temperatures still in the freezing and roadways are covered with snow and more importantly now ice.
The current forecast is for South Louisiana to stay below freezing for the remainder of the day which will not help thaw out the roadways causing the snow and ice to remain present on the roads.
The DOTD announced at 6:24 am Central time that,
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that due to deteriorating road conditions as a result of Winter Storm Enzo, Interstate 10 in the east and westbound direction is now closed to motorists, from the Louisiana/Texas state line to Baton Rouge, effective immediately. Motorists are encouraged to avoid traveling on roadways unless absolutely necessary. DOTD crews will continue to monitor state bridges and roadways.
Also in Southwest Louisiana, the I-210 bypass including the I-210 bridge in South Lake Charles is shut down in both East and Westbound directions from the split on the Lake Chreles side to the split on the Sulphur side.
The Louisiana State Troop D and the DOTD have informed us that there is no timeline yet on when these roads will reopen. We will keep you updated right here and on air.
