Former Iowa Yellow Jacket Andre Sam Signs with Philadelphia Eagles Practice Squad
Former Iowa Yellow Jacket Andre Sam is taking his football journey to the next level by signing with the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. The undrafted free agent (UDFA) out of LSU has found a new home with the Eagles, according to Andrew DiCecco.
Andre’s football roots run deep in Southwest Louisiana. At Iowa High School, he was a standout athlete, earning All-State honors as both a wide receiver and a kick returner. During his senior year, Andre helped lead the Yellowjackets to the Class 3A state quarterfinals, catching 48 passes for 775 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. Over his high school career, he racked up 178 receptions for 2,593 yards and 31 touchdowns. Andre also excelled in track, winning district titles in the long jump and relay events.
After high school, Andre committed to McNeese State University, where he played as a wide receiver and defensive back for four seasons. During his time with the Cowboys, he made a significant impact on the field, recording nine tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble. In 2022, Andre transferred to Marshall University to play under former McNeese head coach Lance Guidry. At Marshall, he continued to impress with 53 tackles and one interception.
Andre’s journey eventually led him to LSU, where he stood out on the Tigers' defense. Despite some struggles for the team, Andre finished third on the squad with nearly 80 tackles, 39 of which were solo. He also led LSU in return yardage and interceptions, showing his versatility and skill.
After the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles saw potential in Andre and signed him as an undrafted free agent. His contract includes $150,000 in guaranteed money and a $20,000 signing bonus, showing the Eagles' belief in his talent.
