Go Topless Weekend at Holly Beach Announced For May
Don't get ahead of me, I write about this each and every year. The topless part is in reference to a Jeep, not a human. The announcement was made a little later than usual by the board that started the Jeep weekend at Holly Beach, GTW on the Cajun Riviera. They made the announcement recently that it will be happening, but they wanted to try and keep the event as low-key as possible for this year due to the devastation Cameron parish experienced with the two hurricanes.
Last year, the group moved forward with the event despite the pandemic, but encouraged those attending to maintain social distancing within the groups they came with. With over 400 jeeps in attendance over that weekend, it was still quite a success.
The event, started by GTW on the Cajun Riviera, grew quickly and seemed to spark some life back into the touring part of the Holly Beach area. Locals were able to rent camper spaces and even trailers or homes to visitors of the weekend. The Seven Slot Society of SWLA even sponsored a trash pick up day on the Sunday following the event to make sure the area was cleaner than when they arrived.
This year will be different than the past years the event has been held at the Riviera. The group reminded visitors to the weekend that accommodations are low due to the storms and so are supplies being available. They wanted to stay conscious that the beach can still be enjoyed as always, but to be mindful of the residents in the area who are still doing their best to recover from the hurricanes.
The event is set for May 14 through May 16, with the actual Go Topless Day being Saturday, May 15. Remember to bring trash bags and keep the beach clean as you enjoy a beautiful weekend at the beach.
