We laugh here in our office, saying Friday is like a throwaway day because most offices across the area will close early or not open at all, and try and get a four-day weekend. The Memorial Day holiday is coming up this Monday, May 26, 2025, which means all federal, state, and local agencies will be closed to observe the holiday, and all services will be interrupted as these agencies will be closed.

Such is the case for the city of Lake Charles and in the parish of Calcasieu. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury offices will be closed in observance of the holiday, but if you live in Calcasieu Parish and have Waste Management pickup your trash, they will still be running that day.

As far as residents in Lake Charles, however, your trash pickup days and times WILL be changed for the holiday. Katie Harrington with the city of Lake Charles said,

Trash and garbage normally picked up on Monday will be rescheduled for pickup on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesday will be rescheduled for pickup on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Thursday and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedules.
Also, be aware that the Department of Public Works, including all Recycling Operations located on Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane and the Roving Green Truck, plus the Incinerator, will also be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025. They will all reopen and operate during regular hours on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
