McNeese AD Heath Schroyer Headed to Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge, Louisiana (KNGT-FM) - It was likely only a matter of WHEN rather than IF. After it was reported on Thursday, it has now been announced that McNeese Athletics Director Heath Schroyer has accepted a role inside the LSU Athletics Department and will be heading to Baton Rouge
Schroyer follows a long line of people with McNeese ties who now hold major power in Baton Rouge...

During Schroyer’s time at McNeese, it was about as unprecedented a situation as one could have. The athletic department was around $3 million in debt, two hurricanes ravaged through Southwest Louisiana, the football team was on academic probation, and, not to mention, the COVID-19 pandemic was ongoing.
Schroyer embraced the bad and got to work.
Since then, Schroyer has completely turned McNeese Athletics around, hopefully for good.
The basketball program has become one of the best mid-majors in the country. Schroyer made the bold decision to hire Will Wade, which has now turned into Bill Armstrong, and no letting up. The Cowboys just wrapped up their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament appearance whereas the women just made their first postseason appearance since 2016.
Schroyer’s impact extends far beyond just McNeese Athletics; you could argue he single-handedly saved the Southland Conference.
Now Schroyer is off to Baton Rouge, where he will work alongside LSU AD Verge Ausberry and will serve as the main correspondent for LSU Basketball.

For those who have followed the LSU-McNeese saga closely, this felt like the most likely decision since even before Wade Rousse was named the LSU President.
Since then, Lee Mallet has been named the Chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, and Governor Jeff Landry recently named Lake Charles businessman John Condos to the Board of Supervisors.
The missing piece to the LSU-McNeese puzzle? Will Wade.
It might not be a jigsaw, but the pieces just might fit for a reunion, not only with LSU, but with his former McNeese bosses. All reports indicate LSU will move on from current men's coach Matt McMahon and reunite with the hailed general, Will Wade.
Where does McNeese look for its next Director of Athletics? I think that is the question on the forefront of everyone's mind in Lake Charles today. In the present time, Deputy Athletics Director Bridget Martin will likely serve in the role of AD, for now.
Schroyer and company have set McNeese Athletics up to run smoothly for a long time, but the right person needs to be in that seat to keep it rolling.
