Lake Charles Meals On Wheels Program Keeps Rolling
Times are hard enough, so it’s good to know that in spite of the coronavirus pandemic, our home-bound elderly and disabled residents are able to get a good meal.
Jacqueline Green, Executive Director of the Calcasieu Council on Aging (COA,) which distributes Meals on Wheels in Lake Charles, said that since the pandemic began, they’ve taken on more clients. That's not surprising because more and more seniors are working in order to survive. However, older people have the highest risk of having severe complications from the coronavirus. With the stay-at-home order and no work, buying groceries is no easy feat.
Thankfully, KPLC reports the COVID-19 pandemic hasn't stopped volunteers from delivering the lifesaving services of the Meals on Wheels program in the Lake area. For seniors across the nation, this program is a matter of life or death, so it's a blessing that there was no interruption in the services.
COA is located at 3950 Highway 14 in Lake Charles, LA, if you or someone you know needs services, call (337) 474-2583 or 1-800-223-5872.
Green said the program has adjusted their protocol going forward in light of the coronavirus outbreak. It's all about the safety of their special clients, so the non-profit organization is taking extensive precautions when it comes to delivering meals.
She also mentioned that they are supplying emergency supplies like bottled water, paper towels, and toilet paper to their clients.
