Coming up on Monday, June 19th, 2023, the city of Lake Charles will be closed to observe the Juneteenth holiday. You may not know this but Juneteenth is now a federal holiday.

Back in 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday in the United States. What is Juneteenth? According to Wikipedia,

A holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

Lake Charles residents, since the City of Lake Charles will observe the holiday, you will need to make sure that they put out your trash on the appropriate day because your day WILL be changed.

Katie Harrington with the City Of Lake Charles gave us the new schedule for garbage and trash pickup. Here is the new schedule for next week.

Trash and garbage normally picked up on Monday will be rescheduled for pickup on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Trash and garbage normally picked up on Tuesday will be rescheduled for pickup on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Thursday and Friday routes will remain on their regular schedules.

Lake Charles residents also need to remember to take their trash before 7:00 am on the day it is supposed to be picked up and after they dump it, you will need to bring in your can before 7:00 pm that night.

So make sure to write yourself a note or put it in your calendar so you don't miss getting your trash picked up on the new date.
