We are so happy to report to you that YOU showed up big for three children who lost both of their parents to COVID-19.

Last Saturday, April 23rd, friends and family put together a benefit for the Chapman Children who basically became orphans after both of their parents, unfortunately, passed away from COVID.

The parents, Michael Lee Chapman and his wife Whitney Lee Chapman, ages 35 and 33, lost their battle with COVID-19 on 8/22/2021 and 9/4/2021 last year leaving behind their 3 children, Shelby who is 10, Wyatt 5, and Camille who is 3 years old.

Michael's sister and her fiance' now have custody of the children but we all knew they needed help since no one was prepared for the unfortunate thing that happened.

The benefit was held at the Cajun French Music Association building in Lake Charles and a ton of people came out for the great cause. They had food for sale, raffle tickets, drinks, a silent auction, and the big thing was the live auction.

Hal McMillen and his wife Sue were on hand to conduct the auction and Gator 99.5's Buddy Russ emceed the auction and Mike Soileau was on location promoting the event.

They had around 50 auction items and some of them were unique like a helicopter hog hunt, guns, and a huge fireworks display just to name a few. Garrett Puckett and his wife along with other friends and family put the benefit together.

Garrett called me yesterday and let us know what the grand total was raised and he wanted to let you know as well.  We are so happy to report that they raised $134,000.

Wow, that is so awesome! This is why we love Southwest Louisiana and our people. Folks here are so giving and always willing to help someone in need.  You did it Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana and we and the Chapman kids can't thank you enough.

the real winners are those three children who will now be taken care of because of your huge hearts and generosity.
