List Of Closures in Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana Due To The Weather
Earlier this week, it looked like Francine had her eyes focused directly on Southwest Louisiana prompting officials to make decisions on whether to close things down or leave them open. On the side of caution, local parish and city officials, the school board, and even businesses pulled the trigger and decided to shut things down.
Francine is now a category one hurricane and is forecasted to become a category two storm before making landfall. The current track has her making landfall Wednesday, September 11th in the early to late evening on the East coast of Louisiana.
Here is the list of closures for Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 in Southwest Louisiana and the Lake Charles area
- All Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, Allen, and Beauregard parish schools are closed
- All Diocese of Lake Charles schools
- Bishop Noland High School and Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School
- Lake Charles Charter Academy, Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy, and Lake Charles College Prep all closed
- St. Nicholas Center for Children
- McNeese State University
- Lake Charles City Hall Offices and services
- Admin Office at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office
- Calcasieu Parish Police Jury offices
- City Transit services shut down for today, and no busses will run
Garbage and Trash pickup has been suspended for residents in Calcasieu Parish. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury said,
Waste Management has suspended trash collection beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9. Routes will run one day behind schedule for the remainder of the week through Saturday.
Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana is also closed today. They put out a statement saying,
To ensure the safety of our guests and associates during Hurricane Francine, Coushatta Casino Resort will temporarily close, effective Wednesday, September 11 at 2 am.
