You may or may not know that today is a Federal holiday. Most banks, City and Parish offices, and any other company that observes Federal holidays will be closed today.

You may want to check with your city and parish officials websites to see if they will be closed but we are pretty sure they will be. Right here in Calcasieu Parish, the city of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury offices will be closed today for the federal holiday.

If you have your trash picked up today and are a resident of Lake Charles, you will not have it picked up today. Here is the revamped trash pick-up schedule here. If you have your trash picked up by Waste Management by the Police Jury, your trash pickup WILL be picked up today with no interruptions.

What holiday is it? It is Juneteenth.

On June 17, 2021, the federal government signed into law making Juneteenth the eleventh American federal holiday. The last federal holiday that was signed into law was back in 1983 when Martin Luther King Jr. Day was designated a federal holiday. That is why you will see most places closed.

So on top of most banks, City and Parish offices, and any other companies closing for the holiday. the United States Postal Service will also be observing the holiday which means they will NOT be delivering mail today.

Other delivery services like Fed Ex and UPS will still be on the road delivering packages running their regular routes and running their normal business hours schedule.
