Louisiana State Police Holding DWI & Seat Belt Checkpoint This Weekend In Calcasieu Parish
Coming up this weekend it's the Cinco De Mayo holiday and a lot of people here in Southwest Louisiana like to get out there and celebrate the holiday. I mean do we folks in Southwest Louisiana really need a holiday to celebrate anyway?
Folks out celebrating this weekend and wanting to have a few drinks for the holiday may want to get a plan together before getting behind the wheel and driving.
You should never do that anyway so make sure you have a designated driver or a ride-share app downloaded on your phone so that you can get back home safely after you go to and celebrate.
The Louisiana State Police will be conducting a DWI & Seat Belt checkpoint somewhere In Calcasieu Parish from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Tropper Derek Senegal with the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section said,
Our mission will be to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others. Additionally, we will be checking vehicles for unrestrained motorists and occupants in an effort to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities caused by not wearing a seat belt.
Motorists are encouraged to designate a sober driver and buckle up.
To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone to reach the nearest Louisiana State Police troop location or dial 911 to contact local law enforcement.
Support for this checkpoint is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
So make sure to have your plan in place before you go out and drink this weekend. Stay safe boys and girls!
