Louisiana’s 10 Snobbiest Cities—Is Your Hometown on the List?
When you consider the snobbish cities in Louisiana, a few cities immediately spring to mind for you as a Cajun. Only a select few have a tendency to exude such aura.
However, I was curious to find out what ChatGPT thought of Louisiana and which places it considered to be the most snobbish. While some of them supported my initial hypothesis, two in particular caught me off guard.
This is all in good humor, of course! These cities are home to many wonderful people.
The question was asked:
Give me the top 10 Snobbiest Cities in Louisiana, include a short reason with each answer.
The Conclusion:
1. New Orleans – The Old Money & Arts Snob
- Home to historic mansions, elite private schools, and a deep-rooted appreciation for arts, jazz, and high society events like Mardi Gras balls. If you don’t know your wine, you might get side-eyed.
2. Baton Rouge – The Political & University Snob
- Louisiana’s capital boasts well-off political elites, LSU alumni who act like royalty, and upscale neighborhoods that scream exclusivity.
3. Mandeville – The Northshore Elite Snob
- Located on Lake Pontchartrain, this city is full of wealthy commuters who think they’re too good for New Orleans but still want to be near it.
4. Lafayette – The Cajun Culture Snob
- If you don’t eat boudin, dance to zydeco, or know the difference between a good roux and a bad one, you might get judged here.
5. Covington – The Wealthy Suburb Snob
- With its charming yet pricey boutiques, country clubs, and high-end dining, Covington residents are often seen as a bit "above" the rest of Louisiana.
6. Shreveport – The “We’re Basically Texas” Snob
- With a mix of oil money, casinos, and country-club elites, Shreveport’s high society loves to compare itself to Dallas rather than Louisiana.
7. Lake Charles – The Oil Money & Golf Course Snob
- Wealth from the oil industry flows here, and between country clubs and fancy casino resorts, there's a definite “upper-class” vibe.
8. Metairie – The Suburban Status Snob
- Technically not its own city, but its well-off neighborhoods, gated communities, and preference for everything just a little better than NOLA earn it a spot.
9. Houma – The Old South Money Snob
- The old plantation-style wealth runs deep, and if you’re not “from here,” you might always feel like an outsider.
10. Monroe – The “Duck Dynasty” Elite Snob
- You wouldn’t think a small town would make this list, but Monroe’s wealthy elite (think big business and hunting estates) have a way of looking down on outsiders.
At the end of the day, every town in Louisiana has its own flavor of charm, some just like theirs served with a side of fine wine and a raised eyebrow. Whether you're sipping a $15 cocktail in New Orleans, trying to impress LSU grads in Baton Rouge, or just attempting to survive a Mandeville dinner party without mispronouncing "charcuterie," remember, it's all in good fun. So, if your city made the list, wear that snob badge with pride... or at least pretend you’re too good to care!
