LSU Avoids Weekend Sweep By Mississippi State
There aren't many teams that can come into Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge and sweep the LSU Tigers baseball team. Mississippi State was on the verge of doing just that when the two teams met for the series finale on Sunday. The Bulldogs had already taken the Friday night contest in an offensive show. Saturday's contest was more about pitching as State took down LSU by a score of 2-1.
Sunday the big bats were again booming. This time it was LSU that found the long ball and some timely hitting as they avoided the sweep winning the series finale by a score of 11-8.
Three Tigers in particular had a great day swinging the bat. Jake Fraley had three hits on the day including a triple. Kramer Robinson got his first home run of the season in the sixth inning. Bryce Jordon only got one hit for the afternoon but it was a big one. Jordon took Bulldog pitching deep for a three run shot .
Things didn't start well for the Tigers as the Mississippi took an early 3-0 lead. Then the LSU bats woke up and started the comeback charge. Unlike Friday night where the Tigers' stranded 13 men on base, timely hitting helped push those runs across the plate on Sunday.
After the weekend series LSU is tied for 2nd place in the SEC West with Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. All three teams trail division leader Texas A&M. After a Tuesday night game against Tulane LSU will be on the road next weekend for a three game set in Oxford Mississippi to take on Ole Miss.
