Postseason individual accolades are nice. However, the only one that really counts in college baseball is NCAA Champion. The LSU Tiger bats proved last night that you can take the mound as the conference pitcher of the year you can also leave the mound in a hurry when balls start flying around the yard.

In late Friday action in the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament in the garden spot of the south, Hoover Alabama, Kentucky's Sean Hjelle took the mound against LSU with that Pitcher of the Year honor to his credit. He left after five innings. Let's be fair, anyone can have an off night. Hjelle had an off night.

The LSU offense cranked out five runs against Hjelle. That was just in the second inning. The Tiger bats erupted for another five-spot in the fifth inning. The final score was LSU 10 and Kentucky 0. It was a mercy rule thing. The game was called after 7 innings.

Tiger baseball will take a day off today while their Saturday opponent is determined. LSU could face Kentucky again if the Wildcats can dispose of South Carolina. That game has an anticipated start time of 4 PM on Friday.

On the other side of the bracket the foe that most pundits believe will be the eventual opponent for LSU in the championship game, Florida, will take on MS State at Noon. The winner of that game will move on to play Arkansas in an elimination game.

LSU is currently on a  nine-game winning streak. It certainly appears as if the Tigers have gotten red hot at the right time of the season.
