LSU President William Tate IV recently announced that Louisiana State University is bringing their mask mandate. This is certainly hopeful news and possibly a good sign that the coronavirus pandemic is finally reached its peak. However, it is important to note that the Louisiana Department of Health has the entire state listed in the "red".  Meaning the community risk of COVID infection is high right now.

Starting Monday, February 14, students, faculty, and staff will no longer be required to mask up. University officials said the decision was in lieu of dropping cases of COVID infections both on campus and the surrounding Parishes. The announcement was made today via a letter penned by President Tate and posted on the Tiger's Facebook page.

Students previously taking virtual classes can resume in-person learning on Monday as well. It should be noted that as LSU scales back some of the campus COVID protocols, President Tate is still encouraging everyone to continue wearing masks.
