Lake Charles, Louisiana—McNeese State announced on Thursday that Women's Basketball Head Coach Lynn Kennedy will not return as the Cowgirls' coach.

Kennedy, who took over the program in April 2021, led McNeese to its most wins (13) and highest conference finish (4th) during the 2021-22 season. However, since then, it has not made the Southland Conference Tournament in two seasons. Kennedy finishes his tenure in the blue and gold with a 41-78 overall record as the McNeese Head Coach.

In a statement released from the university this morning, Athletics Director Heath Schroyer says, “I really appreciate Coach Kennedy’s efforts in leading our women’s basketball program over the last four years. He’s a good man, and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward. I believe this position is now one of the best jobs in our conference. My expectations moving forward are that we compete for Southland Conference championships.”

According to the Lake Charles American Press (Jim Gazzolo), Kennedy was informed of the decision on Thursday Morning in a meeting with Schroyer.

On Tuesday after the season-finale loss to UNO, Kennedy discussed his future at McNeese...

“We love it here. I haven’t talked to anyone about it yet. Honestly, I feel like we’ve set the foundation. We’ve done the heavy lifting. We’ve taken steps forward in Louisiana and Texas recruiting. You can feel it coming together. But that’s not my decision.”

McNeese will now set its sails to finding the next coach to lead the charge of the Women's Basketball program. Where does McNeese turn to next? Only time will tell.
