It seems every few months we hear of a new tragedy, and now we have the largest modern era mass shooting.  Where has humanity gone, and where are we going?

I'm like every other American, life is good here in the states.  It's easy to get complacent and take things for granted.  Like, a lot of things!  Why does it take a horrific tragedy like this to slap us back to reality.

I can't imagine the moment of knowing you're being targeted, shot at by high-powered rifles from an enemy that means you harm that you can't see or possibly know where they are at. The fear mixed with adrenaline and fight or flight responses coursing through the body at break neck speed!  Wanting to help others that are calling...screaming...begging to be saved, but all you can think about are your kids tucked in bed and sleeping sound and how you need to be there for them to provide and protect, or your girlfriend back home that you fought with when you told her about the guys Vegas weekend trip that may never hear you say you love her after you make up when you get back.

It reminds me how fragile life is.  How quickly it can be taken from us.  It also reminds me of the courageous and brave first responders who take these same thoughts and lock them away to save mothers, daughters, sons, and fathers so they have the chance to be with their loved ones later that night.  These amazing men and women are tasked with running into full automatic fire and protect those who are being targeted.  They are now targets.  They too have children in bed wanting to be woke with a kiss from their parents to reassure them that their mommy or daddy had a successful shift.  They too have a family that prays everyday for their safety that needs them to be in their life.  They too have so much to lose in a tragedy like this.  Yet, they are there.  Running into danger.

To all the first responders who read this, from the bottom of my heart, your service to the communities you serve is much appreciated and needed more than ever.  Your valor, your courage, your bravery in the face of danger and death is inspiring and unmatched!  Thank you!

As a father, it hit me real hard.  As the Good Book tells us, "tomorrow is not promised to us."  Count your blessings and name them one by one.  If you will, take this vow with me...today, let's hug our kids a little tighter, a little longer.  When your spouse gets home from work, kiss them a little more passionately.  Let the important people in your life know you love them.

Being a DJ, I know it's a very real possibility that, in the future, I could be at an event that some person with evil intentions could see as an opportunity.  I need to do a better job making sure I am spiritually fit, that I do a better job conveying my love to my family and those I care about.

This world is seemingly getting darker and darker, where a human life is just collateral damage to get a message across.  Now, more than ever, it is more important to be right in every sense of your life.

Where has humanity gone, and where are we going?
