🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Grab the cold milk and get ready, Its History and Celebration time. This Friday, March 6th, is National Oreo Cookie Day (yes, a day to celebrate cookies). Digging into this on National Day Calendar, I found out that Oreos has an evil twin....well, maybe not evil but rumor has it that it was copied from another.

The History of Oreos, the untold truth.

Now here’s the wild part. Did you know the Oreo we all love… wasn’t even first?

In the early 1900s, there were two bakery brothers named Jacob and Joseph Loose. They ran rival companies. One of them made a cookie called the Hydrox. Same idea. Two chocolate cookies. Cream in the middle. Sound familiar?

A few years later, Oreo showed up. Pretty much a copycat cookie. At first, Oreo didn’t even do that great. Folks were still eating Hydrox. But in the 1950s, Oreo changed things up. They gave it a new look, raised the price to make it seem fancy, and boom. Oreo took over.

Today, Oreo is the best-selling cookie in America, and Hydrox is kinda like that old country song you forgot till it comes on the radio and you go, “Hey I remember that!”

Around here in SWLA, Oreos ain’t just cookies. They part of growing up. Late night snacks. After school treats. Church potlucks. Somebody always crushing Oreos in pudding at family get-togethers. My kiddo loves twisting them apart, and Laura still says the double stuff ones are the only way to go.

So Friday, do me a favor. Pour you some milk. Eat a couple Oreos. Maybe try to find a Hydrox just for fun (im not sure if you can still find them). Then tell me on Gator 99.5 Mobile App how long you dunk yours before it breaks off in the cup. Lets all do experiments and share our results.

Happy National Oreo Cookie Day, Southwest Louisiana. Don’t forget the napkins… you gonna need ‘em.

How much a box of Girl Scout cookies costs throughout the years

February is the time of year we see Girl Scouts out hustling hard to sell their scrumptious cookies. We all know that the price of a box has gone up, but do you know how much the price has increased? Thanks to finance.yahoo.com, we now know.
