It has been popping up randomly from my own friends: The "Facebook Bypass". Does it work? Is it a hoax?

The short answer is, yea, it's a hoax. For those of you wondering what I am talking about, here is the post I am referring to.

Thanks for the tips to bypass FB – it WORKS!! I have a whole new news feed. I’m seeing posts from people I haven’t seen in years.
Here’s how to bypass the system FB now has in place that limits posts on your news feed.
Their new algorithm chooses the same few people – about 25 – who will read your posts. Therefore, Hold your finger down anywhere in this post and “copy” will pop up. Click “copy”. Then go your page, start a new post and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. “Paste” will pop up and click paste. This will bypass the system. Hi new and old friends!

Sounds neat right? Ever heard the old saying about something sounding too good to be true? Here is a perfect example.

I did some digging (took me 10 seconds). Snopes.com is always my first stop in trying to figure out if something is real or not. They have been around for years and are pretty accurate and forward when they can debunk, verify, or really just don't know if it's true or not.

Guess what? Snopes says it's a total rumor and not true at all. Go figure. The hoax seems to have started in late 2017 with an actual Facebook update to adjust the "algorithms", but it wasn't to restrict. The update was to actually show more "friend" content. Snopes also made the comment that Facebook tends to know when something of this nature is being "shared" a lot, and tends to bury it to avoid your own feed being flooded by the same dumb hoax. This is also why the newer chain letter style post asks you to copy and paste it in your own feed, rather than post it. It will appear to Facebook as "genuine" and your own "content".

In short, don't do it. You're just annoying your friends and family. Also, please tell your maw maw and parents to stop doing it!
