One of my favorite classic country artist would have celebrated his birthday.  The iconic Waylon Jennings would have turned 79 today.

The mega country superstar was born Waylon Arnold Jennings on this day in 1937 in Littlefield, Texas.  Waylon started playing guitar when he was eight years old.

Jennings hit the country music scene in 1958 and toured and recorded music until his death in 2002.  Waylon was part of the outlaw country movement with the likes of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard just to name a few.

I remember in the late 1970's and early 80's Waylon Jennings narrating the hit show "Dukes Of Hazzard".  He also sang the theme song "Good Ol Boys".

Here is one of my favorites from Waylon Jennings "Luckenbach Texas" with his good buddy Willie Nelson:

During Waylon's career he racked up 95 singles, 16 number one hits and 32 number one hits world wide.  Waylon Jennings was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001 on year before his death in 2002 of diabetic complications.

Happy Birthday to one of the greatest of all times, Waylon Jennings.
