Weird Facts About Christmas You Might Not Know

Did you know that in Louisiana many people celebrate the arrival of Papa Noël instead of Santa Claus? Terry Hover Dunham wrote a wonderful Christmas story about how, in a hot and humid place, there can be no sleds or reindeer, so Papa Noël cruises down the river on a boat that's pulled by eight alligators, with an all-white one named Nicollette leading the way.

Here are five weird facts about Christmas you might not know:

1) Jingle Bells was written for Thanksgiving, not Christmas. It was also the first song to be broadcast from space. (So that's why aliens started abducting us!)

2) Santa Claus has sometimes worn blue, white, and green in the past, but his traditional red suit came from a 1930s ad made by Coca Cola. (I think we should change it to purple and gold.)

3) Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You holds a Guinness World Record. Believe it or not, in 25 years this song had never hit number one until recently. (I could have gone the rest of my life never knowing this fact.)

4) Since 1974, Japanese people traditionally eat at KFC for Christmas dinner. KFC offered a “Christmas dinner” that contained chicken and wine. - (In Louisiana, it's a six-pack and some boudin.)

5) The first artificial Christmas tree wasn’t a tree. In 19th century Germany, it was actually created from goose feathers that were dyed green. (You mean I could have been saving money on a tree?)
