Well shopper and citizen safety is a priority of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's office (CPSO) and that is why they have now set up their Annual Robbery Prevention Mobilization (RPM) at the Prien Lake Mall.

So yesterday morning while I was laying in bed watching KPLC Sunrise when the news came across that a former Calcasieu Parish Deputy and now a security contractor overseas had been killed in the line of duty. Then I heard the name Carl Fields.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office law enforcement training academy graduated another class of recruits today in Lake Charles. The 112th Basic Academy consist of police officers from the 5 parish area.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be hosting a free senior citizens fishing derby on Friday, September 25th at the CPSO pond behind the jail on Broad Street in Lake Charles.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating is the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign which will end on Labor day on Monday, September 7th. With that being said, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting a DWI checkpoint somewhere in the parish this Friday night.

A body was discovered in a remote area in the northwest corner of Calcasieu parish near Starks, that’s only accessible by ATV’s.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office along with other local and state law enforcement agencies will be participating in the national ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kim Myers, CPSO will participate in the national crackdown on drunk driving. A grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission makes it all possible.

Officials are keeping tight-lipped about the reason why, but the area beneath the Interstate 10 bridge over the Calcasieu River has been declared a crime scene and is closed to the public.

This morning, the CPSO is reporting that the body of Shannon Godfrey was found within 100 yards of where he went under in the Sabine River.

Many of you out there may not know this but I was a senior corporal with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's office in the patrol division for 10 years. I am a proud graduate of the 61st basic academy and I graduated in June of 1997. It is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that 50 more classes have now graduated!

The Memorial day holiday has past but that doesn't mean that local law enforcement is laying off the checkpoints in the area. The State police along with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) will be conducting checkpoints and roving patrols in the Parish through Sunday.
