Could LSU Fans Break The Rocco’s College World Series Shot Record?
OMAHA, NEBRASKA (KNGT-FM) - The last time the LSU Tigers were in Omaha, Nebraska, they won the College World Series, but that wasn't the only thing they won... LSU also won off the field as the Tiger Faithful shattered the Rocco's College World Series Shot Challenge record with a total of 68,888 shots consumed in favor of LSU.
So, could LSU fans possibly top the 2023 performance?
What is the Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge?
For the uninitiated, Rocco's Jell-O Shot Challenge takes place at Rocco's Pizza & Cantina, a popular spot located just a stone's throw away from the TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The challenge coincides with the College World Series, adding an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie among the fans.
Fans purchase Jell-O shots in their team's colors, with each shot counting as a point for their team. The goal is simple: consume as many Jell-O shots as possible to help your team climb the leaderboard. It's a fun and spirited way to show support, with proceeds often going to charitable causes, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
CAN LSU BREAK THEIR OWN ROCCO'S SHOT CHALLENGE RECORD?
The fun at the College World Series will get started well before First Pitch on Friday, as fans from across the country will begin to flood Omaha as early as Thursday morning.
Now the Tigers needed a little bit of help to set the record in 2023, as Gordon McKernan called in to make a gigantic purchase to set it at 68,888 shots.
So the real question is, can LSU fans break their record?
It certainly is possible, but it would take the Tigers staying until the end and making it to the College World Series Finals. Speaking from personal experience, watch out for how many you consume in one setting; those things can be dangerous!
I asked people on Social Media for their predictions on how many shots LSU would take, and it seems like Tigers Fans are going to Omaha with records on their mind. Here's what some of them had to say...
Sheryl Marks says, "I think they will top the last time. I’m going with 70,000"
Kolton Bowers says, "100k by the time Saturday's game is over."
