Growing up where I did in SE Texas January was a pretty slack-off month as far as life goes. The Christmas/New Years hubbub abated and was followed by about 30-40 days of eerie quiet on all fronts.

But happily, life in SW Louisiana takes no such dank winter breaks, no sooner are the gift wrappings stuffed in the waste can, when we start planning for parades, balls, and Kingcake. Lot's and lots of Kingcake staying busy busy busy.

Local sports is no exception, with their first game still weeks away the McNeese Softball Cowgirls have announced that this weekend they're holding various clinics for kids in 7th-12th grade interested in learning to better compete by attending this weekends softball clinics at Joe Miller Field.

The first clinic is Friday (11 Jan) for pitchers and catchers starting from 6-9 pm at $75 for the session, then Saturday and Sunday is the Winter Elite Showcase clinic from 9 am - 4 pm. The Elite Showcase clinic is $225 and includes lunch.

You may show up and register 30 minutes prior to each clinic or click here to register now.
