Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana residents will need to pay attention to the weather later this week as freezing temperatures will be widespread in our area.

The National Weather Service is calling for some of the lowest temperatures we have seen all year here in Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana.

On Thursday, they are calling for a high of 64 degrees but by that night, the temperature will fall to a chilling 19 degrees. Then they are calling for the high on Friday to only be 32 degrees and the low to be 19 degrees once again.

32 degrees is considered freezing so if on Friday the high is 32 and the low is 19, we will have freezing temperatures all day. Then on Saturday, The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 37 with the low dropping back down to 23 degrees.

With that being said, there are a few things you will need to get prepared for. Remember the four Ps! Pipes, People, pets, and plants.

  • Pipes-- Make sure that if you have any exposed pipes on the outside of your home or businesses, you covered them. You will also want to have at least one or two of your faucets inside your house dripping a little water to make sure your pipes don't freeze.
  • People-- make sure that if you know someone who doesn't have sufficient heat in their home, you can help them find a nice warm  place to stay until the  temperature goes back up
  • Pets -- If you have a dog or cat that is usually an outdoor pet, you will want to bring them inside your home for their safety.
  • Plants -- Most folks have plants that sit outside. They will freeze and possibly die if you leave them outside so you may want to bring them into the house.

Stay warm everybody and stay safe.
